4.5 Stars. I really liked the way time was portrayed through this book. As Circe is immortal, time does not have the same power over her actions, and instead Circe is free to learn and grow fully at her own pace. Although I enjoyed this aspect of the book, it did make the plot feel very slow in places. I loved the magic system within this book, and thought it was well contrasted to godly powers which other immortals wielded. Although the majority of the book takes place on Aeaea, a lot of Greek mythology is packed into the book. Personally, there were a few times where Circe annoyed me. Primarily, these were due to how meek her character is early in the book. It is not until much later that Circe becomes able to stand for herself, and I found her to be much more enjoyable to read about. Though I do wonder if this is purposefully done to show the woman’s place during this era and how Circe slowly recognises that this shouldn’t be how it is.
