I really liked it!!! don't know shit about greek mythology so it was fun to learn stuff! not sure if i would have enjoyed it as much if a was a myth head (tm)??? i think a lot of what kept me going was wanting to know what these freaky lil gods were gonna do next! real housewives of ancient greece! miller built a beautiful world and has a wonderful love and understanding of nature i want to retire on alaia and make potions! also that would be a great name for a daughter i call dibs

In 'Circe' the sorceress from 'The Odyssey' tells her story herself. Miller cleverly mixes a number of myths into one narrative and she evokes the world of the Greek gods very well. It takes quite some time before Odysseus himself comes along, but the analysis of his character is very interesting. The last chapters, which retell the lost epic of the Telegony and beyond, are less compelling, but these chapters round up the tale very well. Miller provides a very welcome female perspective on the cruel male world that were ancient Greece and its mythology. But 'Circe' is also a meditation on the nature of mortality, and a well-told story on a troubled character. In all, I enjoyed Miller's take on Circe and her world a lot.

Gripped by epic adventure in the first half of the book, I felt slightly let down by the more homebound second half. Still, an easy and enjoyable read.
