This was a lovely queer fairytale that I think I could’ve benefited from as a child. All the characters were enjoyable, especially the snarky dragon and homebody knight, and queer representation was woven in seamlessly through characters’ identities or the simple asking of others’ pronouns. As an aroace person, I liked Sir Violet and felt he aligned with some of my experiences of aromanticism and asexuality.

The whole story only took me just over 2 hours to read and was delightfully kind, while still showing that people can make mistakes. The author wanted this to be a tale for all ages, and I’d say she succeeded. It would especially make for a nice bedtime story for any children in your life.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for sending this to me!

This book warmed my heart. I adore retellings of old fairytails, even better when they're queer.
I didn't read the original one, but in this final draft the author got rid of the problems that were pointed out by a reviewer, or at least it seems like it to me; however, I am not transgender, so please refer to someone else on this matter, if you wish to have a more nuanced opinion.
I found the ending a bit in your face, but that is true for most of fairytails.

I love this little book soooo much! I read it in 3 hours and I couldn't stop reading it. There weren't any boring moments (like in longer books) and it was just soo good!

I love the queer rep: trans women, a sapphic couple, an aromantic guy,... and I loved how they simply asked for the dragons pronouns.

I also loved how the adventure starts with trans people and to find a way in which they are more accepted and understood and the idea of spreading queer stories around the world to make them more accepted is so beautiful.
And that violet finds out a name (aromantic) for what he is feeling (or rather not feeling) because of those stories is so cool!

I think everyone should read this book because it's amazing, it's short, it's queer and its just fun to read!
