“I have been a liar all my life, you see. It’s not uncommon in our family.”

“No way out but through.”

If I’m honest, I went into this book not knowing what I was getting myself into. I read We Were Liars last month and I couldn’t tell you the plot at all, I just knew I enjoyed it at the time. I think the same happened with this book.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first book, because I think it was easier to follow. I loved the aspect of this storyline and I didn’t see the plot twist coming!

E. Lockhart very cleverly writes a story that tells you the plot twist and the ending of the book right at the beginning, but you don’t put it together until the end. And it’s both infuriating and thoroughly enjoyable!

I did really enjoy this book, and I loved the sisterhood aspect of the siblings. I definitely got a lot more hooked in the second half of the book and read it in one sitting!

4.25⭐️ I look forward to the next book (when it’s released!)

Wow. Just WOW. I loved it much more than I thought. Maybe more than the 1st one. An eye for an eye. A son for a son.
Carrie killed Pfeff, causing his mother and father to lose their first born. And years later, she suffered from the same fate.
I didn’t expect the twist but I spoiled it for myself anyway, it was surprisingly not shocking. She did say she was a liar. Bro and Penny. Ugh, forcing herself to be straight. Wow. The book was heartbreaking, especially considering the people they become. Which isn’t too great, but it makes sense now why they are the way they are.
BRO THE DAD HELPED THEM COVER UP THE MURDER. HE TOOK THE BOARD. Ugh Carrie is also an unreliable narrator just like Candace was. Fuck bro.
And don’t get me started on Rosemary.
She saw her for 5 summers. Her baby sister that drowned.
Ugh. I wish penny could be out. I just want people to be happy in this book, but literally no one is ever.

The prequel to We Were Liars. You have to read We Were Liars first before reading Family of Liars as there is literally a spoiler on the first line.

I much preferred this to We Were Liars. (Sorry Hot Key) but I really wasn’t the biggest fan of WWL and I’m glad this was better!

I listened to this as an audiobook which I think helped as E Lockhart has an acquired writing style. (It’s very literary, with short sentences and minimal punctuation.)

It’s a mystery, thriller sort of read!

Expect: family, holiday, beach, death, sea, ghosts, lies.
