“I have been a liar all my life, you see. It’s not uncommon in our family.”

“No way out but through.”

If I’m honest, I went into this book not knowing what I was getting myself into. I read We Were Liars last month and I couldn’t tell you the plot at all, I just knew I enjoyed it at the time. I think the same happened with this book.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first book, because I think it was easier to follow. I loved the aspect of this storyline and I didn’t see the plot twist coming!

E. Lockhart very cleverly writes a story that tells you the plot twist and the ending of the book right at the beginning, but you don’t put it together until the end. And it’s both infuriating and thoroughly enjoyable!

I did really enjoy this book, and I loved the sisterhood aspect of the siblings. I definitely got a lot more hooked in the second half of the book and read it in one sitting!

4.25⭐️ I look forward to the next book (when it’s released!)

I reallllllyyyyyyy like We Were Liars, I did watch the show before reading book, so I already knew the twists of that story. However I didn’t know anything about this story, other than the bits that are hinted at in the show. Getting more insight into the sisters relationships with one and another and their parents was similar to how I imagine. I did expect there to be slightly more competition among them in their younger years, but the fact that there wasn’t makes their relationships as adults all the more sad. I love that both this book and the first are told through the POV of the eldest from the generation, who also both have substance abuse problems.
I did expect that the twist was going to be that they killed their sister SO HAPPY that was not the case, however it does make me question the comment in the show when Bess says something along lines (to Carrie) “Do you think this is was punishment, for what we did my summer 16…. But if that’s the case why wasn’t Penny punished?” Because I feel like Bess was the least guilty of the 3 sisters, and Carrie and Penny both being equally responsible
Overall a very good book, and I’m excited to read the next!!
