Quite predictable once you’ve read the first book in the series.

I found this book really interesting! After reading and watching We Were Liars, I was very curious about the burden the moms carried about their own teenage years, and this book answered all those questions. I liked the ‘set in the 80’s murder mystery’ vibe, and all the plot twists were unexpected and had me very surprised every time one popped up. If you read We Were Liars, I would definitely recommend. 💙⚓️🌊

“I have been a liar all my life, you see. It’s not uncommon in our family.”

“No way out but through.”

If I’m honest, I went into this book not knowing what I was getting myself into. I read We Were Liars last month and I couldn’t tell you the plot at all, I just knew I enjoyed it at the time. I think the same happened with this book.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first book, because I think it was easier to follow. I loved the aspect of this storyline and I didn’t see the plot twist coming!

E. Lockhart very cleverly writes a story that tells you the plot twist and the ending of the book right at the beginning, but you don’t put it together until the end. And it’s both infuriating and thoroughly enjoyable!

I did really enjoy this book, and I loved the sisterhood aspect of the siblings. I definitely got a lot more hooked in the second half of the book and read it in one sitting!

4.25⭐️ I look forward to the next book (when it’s released!)

I love that it centered around Carrie and you get to see the similarities between her and Cadence in the two books. Seeing that the family has always been like this and the reoccurring idea of seeing ghosts on the island.

“What the literal f***!” - The words that came out of my mouth when I got to part 6.

Once again, did not see that one coming.  And then later on, once again basically being told jk it was me who did it.

This family. The drama. It’s all straight messy. And since it’s not real, I’m here for it.

I normally don’t read these types of books. It’s like heavy drama shows I can’t really watch them but I always want to. Maybe I can read them and just have a pallet cleaner in the middle with a good ole predictable rom com.

After watching We Were Liars and seeing how it ended thinking, that was not in the book. I had to go read the next book in the series which is actually a prequel.

I also had a particular theory very early on in this book about drugs and ghosts. I won’t say more than that to cause spoilers, but it gets dismissed in the end. So I will say all questions will be answered.

But apparently there’s a third book coming out and I need to know who’s pov are we getting and what’s going to go down? What’s the next plot twist? I paused to google it and it’s a companion book to We Were Liars and based on different characters on an island close by. Interesting. Either way, will be reading come its release in November!
