plot/writing felt extremely choppy and weird, in a way that it took you out of the story. writing didn't feel as emotional or as good as we were liars. didn't really like any of the main characters tbh. some of the big plot twists were very predictable. idk how to feel about the BIG twist, it didn't really make sense why it was revealed so soon after. it was much easier to have a very strong emotional connection and empathy for we were liars and cadence compared to this story.

I can‘t quite put my finger on it 🤔.

❝ She is a ghost climbing out of the sea, returning to the spot where no one loved her quite enough to keep her safe. ❞
At first, I was quite hesitant to start reading this book. I had stumbled upon various conflicting reviews and wasn’t fully convinced that it would meet my expectations although I am quite enjoying reading the previous book. While it didn’t quite measure up to the emotional impact of the first book, it did manage to captivate me from the beginning of the story to the end. The book skillfully addressed lingering questions from “We Were Liars.”
Most significantly, it delved deep into the dynamics of the Sinclair family, which I love, shedding light on their shared values, deceptions, and hidden truths. In fact, decided to continue reading this book felt essential for a complete understanding of the entire story. While it didn’t evoke the same level of astonishment or emotion as its #1 book, it still proved to be a compelling and engrossing read for me. Likewise, it did manage to stir my emotions, which is definitely a noteworthy aspect.

I love the summery setting of this novel, it's really made the nice weather today feel like the start of summer. Usually summery novels have this sense of perfection and happiness, but this novel uses the summery setting to create a false sense of security which I love!
It's unconventional but I love the way the novel is written and structured. The use of fairytales to reflect the protagonist's story is really interesting and of course, the whole premise is based on the fact she is an unreliable narrator, which is what adds to the twists. At times, some things felt like they were typos which did throw me off a bit but they could be part of the dialect.
I felt the plot was well paced and I liked the twists and turns. The mystery and romance blend creates a great set up for the storyline. The characters were interesting and I wanted to know their motives, their relationships and what happened next. None of these characters are particularly good people but they're interesting and flawed, making it a good read.
