A good overview of Powell’s life and expedition on the Colorado River, though it was so one-sided as to border on hero worship.

Very interesting to learn the role that Major Powell played in exploring and mapping the west. He had good foresight for properly managing water resources. I recommend others to read this book.

Oh to learn about the biscuit making prowess of a one handed man! Oh to learn of the names of every single person that barely interacted with JWP. Clearly well researched. Clearly mis-titled. So incredibly frustrating. It meanders like the Grand Canyon, be warned.

dnf around 45%. insanely boring—which it shouldn’t have been?? but good heavens. ross needed to seriously narrow his focus with this book because it felt pretty scatterbrained.
