Wow this books was an anime ride. As a huge fan of manga and anime that contain action and fantasy as their main plot elements, I've found this book really close to those two. At first, it kind of started with the oh so well known YA traps, with the girl observing herself in the mirror, as to discribe herself, or her everyday life with reading books and wanting to be free, both characteristics that any YA girl has. That first chapter kind of put me off and I was thinking of leaving this book for way later. However, then there was Kage's pov. And boy, was that straight out of a shounen!! And the book kept getting better and better. I really loved that they had small adventures in every chapter, and that the romance was subtle and just there to keep the plot going. However, I did find some chapters boring. And the ending was rushed and concluded awkwardly. I won't get into any details cause I don't want to spoil things, but the final twist was out of nowhere and it wasn't explained properly. Alas, I have to wait for the next one, but I will definately read book number 2!!

So much fun. Great characters on a journey where they encounter so many engaging plots. I loved every second. And that epilogue makes me want to pick up the next one immediately.

It picks up a little slow in the beginning but once you take it as a traveling story, it gets so good! The adventures of Yumeko and Tatsumi are so much fun. It’s like watching an anime and following along as they go from one point to another in a journey. I think the problems that arise along the way help build their relationship and it makes the ending so much stronger. I am excited to see how this series progresses.

I also love learning all the different Japanese folklore and magic. I’m not sure how correct they are or if it would appeal to someone to already knows of them, but as a beginner it was easy to follow along the audiobooks.
