I really liked many aspects of this novella, like the the descriptions of nature, the quilt, Victoria, antiquarian books and the Roma people. I liked the first half better than the second, which was subtle to the point of being anticlimactic. I also didn't love the subplot of Patrin being unloved and how that was far too conveniently resolved at the end. This makes me want to know more about the Roma people. It was also a fast read, well structured and with a lovely writing style.
