I totally misunderstood what the book was going to be…I thought fun romance. Not that. Not even close. This was heavy and a lot of being in Soraya’s head. I could have done with some more resolution and character development particularly of side characters and Magnus.

I was much more invested in the familial relationships explored in this novel than I ever was in the romance.

This is a nice story about an immigrant family trying to fit in the new society they moved to. Soraya, the youngest daughter, is fresh out of the university and yet she has never had a boyfriend, Nothing wrong with her, but rather with her overprotective family that doesn't even let her speak to boys. But then she meets Magnus, a boy from a completely different world from her, and yet that doesn't stop her for feeling something. They are so different yet so similar, a complete mismatch. But will she overcome her family values and find a way to be with him? You'll have to read to find out.

Raised in a conservative Iranian immigrant family now living in the UK, 21-year-old Soraya is more than ready to get her first kiss out of the way. She chooses college classmate Magnus to help her out. It's just meant to be one kiss. But is there more to the handsome rugby player—emphasis on "player"—than meets the eye?

This multi-generational novel is part romance, part women's fiction. It's a quiet, somewhat dark book that's deeply informed by the characters' ethnic heritage.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Loved the main character and could relate to her on many levels. Anyone with religious guilt/trauma should give this a go. Would’ve given it 5 if she hadn’t ended up with Magnus at the end.
