Didn’t even make it past 12% before I shelved this as “hot garbage”. The writing is so juvenile it physically hurts, especially after loving her Shadowbeast Shifters series. The FMC is just another “not like other girls” girl (funny how there are so many of these girls out there /s), with a head full of mindless inner monologues.

The book slump continues!

Love a dragon story.

Dragon dilemma

Wow, this awesome fated mates enemies to lovers story involving dragons is spellbinding. Love that our hapless FMC Morgan is drawn into the fae world by sun god dragon shifter Drager who she’s inexplicably attracted to despite his arrogance and dismissive nature of all humans.
I adore her inner monologue, she’s hilarious as she stumbles into various hazardous situations in her introductions to the fae world.
It’s quite spicy, both Drager and Morgan being unable to resist each other, love that he has the power to resize things.. She’s also caught the eye of his twin brother Zahak who also acts as her protector. I really want to know if Morgan ends up with both or even maybe all four brothers, now that would be some spice.
That cliffhanger ending tho, desperate to read the next book in this intriguing tale.

Why did I want to read this book?

Dragon-shifting fae.
Library that’s a magical doorway.
Spicy.
A human FMC.
Did I mention dragon-shifting fae?!

Having read Jaymin Eve’s Shadow Beasts series, I was READY for this and it did not disappoint. I enjoyed it! I enjoyed the world that Jaymin built once we left Dragerfield Library that was both unique, but not overly complicated. I’m not going to lie, I don’t enjoy deep world building, but I need world building. This was the perfect amount of this-world-is-clearly-not-Earth, but the creatures we see are ones that are in folklore and easy to grasp. I loved also learning the world through Morgan’s eyes. It was a convenient plotline for sure, but it worked.

Morgan’s curiosity and love of books resonated a lot and I liked her spirit. She’s got some funny internal dialogue since the book is from her POV and she’s in this strange, rigid fae-world. Drager doesn’t know how to deal with her at first, but he learns to! I liked the side characters, but I didn’t love the side characters. They were there more as guides for Morgan than individuals sometimes and I think that took away some possible depth for them.

There’s less political intrigue in this book (oftentimes found in fae books) and more brotherly/family rivalry, which was interesting. There is a big mystery that involves Drager that will play into book 2 a lot, but otherwise, the story felt more about introducing Morgan to the world. It was my one thing that I didn’t quite like because there was a lot of explaining of things when I felt like it wasn’t always needed.

I am for sure going to read book 2, though, and can’t wait for it! The end leaves us on a cliffhanger in the middle of a kind-of action scene. MEAN!

Thanks to Peachy Keen and Jaymin Eve for the free ARC for my honest review.

This is the first book in an enchanting fae/dragon romantasy series that propels readers into an enthralling narrative where a routine library job transforms into a mesmerizing adventure. The story unfolds as protagonist Morgan receives a disruptive late-night call, leading her into the captivating realm of dragons and faeries. Eve skillfully crafts a world rich in detail and political intrigue. Despite gradually unveiling the plot, the book establishes a strong foundation for the series. Morgan's relatable character, marked by sarcasm and a compelling connection with Drager, contributes depth to the tale. This story showcases Eve's talent for blending unique elements, such as a secret library, dragons, and faeries, into an enticing narrative, and I am eager for the sequel.
