The perfect lighthearted book after I read a very heavy one. Julia Quinn pulls off yet another wonderfully sweet historical romance.

I was quite enjoying this book in the beginning. It was great. Loved the banter between the characters. Miranda was shy and meek yet strong headed and independent. I loved the scene in the bookstore where she almost started breathing fire! I also liked the banter between Turner and Miranda. They fought, they teased each other and it was quite fun. Turner was jaded because of his first marriage yet he possessed a certain playfulness. However the third last of the book agitated me. Frustrated me. Those were unnecessary events. Time skipped like hell and months just passed by. Turner wanted to marry Miranda to do right by her. But then she fell pregnant and lost it and they brushed it off just like that?
Then Turner was desperate to marry her even when she was turning him away. Why this sudden change of feelings? He didn’t even have an epiphany that he loved her so he wants to marry her. Ultimately they marry and live in bliss but Miranda is perturbed by the fact that he still hasn’t confessed he loved her. He takes care of her, makes love to her, they have an awesome relationship but she’s not content. So they have a stupid fight about this and they stop sharing rooms and talking to each other.
And I don’t understand this thing about Turner. He didn’t mourn for his first wife because she was unfaithful to him. He hated her and refused to grieve for her. But his actions didn’t seem to portray how much her betrayal hurt him. And he was attracted to Miranda. Cared for her. Loved their life together. Was it difficult to say that he loved her? I don’t think so.
I was loving this book then I was not.

Honestly pretty disappointed. Miranda felt very flat. Usually the heroine has something other than the H that she thinks about, but not this girl. He is literally the only thing she has on her mind. It's boring from a reader's POV and honestly kind of pathetic and I'd rather not read about some young girl panting after the "broken" guy she's loved for 9 years. Idk it felt very high school-ish.
Turner was great actually. I've seen a lot of other reviews calling him a bully but I guess I didn't make it that far into the book to see him change. Where I stopped reading he was honestly the kind of H I love. Broken, grumpy, in need of someone he can trust and love, someone who will make him happy. Miranda just didn't fill that spot for me.
I've read like 10 other JQ novels though and loved every single one so I'm thinking this may just be a miss for me.
