I love the unrequited love theme hence why I picked this book up, but it was a disaster.

First of all, it disappointed me greatly that somewhere in the first twenty pages or so Nigel, the hero, was already kissing Miranda, the heroine.

I mean, in stories such as this when one of them has loved the other for years you are supposed to build a world of tension and emotion. You can't just have them kissing without having a solid background of shared history and thwarted desires.

Second, Nigel was an asshole. How am I supposed to believe he loves Miranda when he ignores her, mocks her feelings, then all of a sudden acts like a bitch in heat, manages to have sex with her and glady disappears afterwards to go to some stupid party, without a second thought? And all that ridiculous behaviour in order for her to accept his proposal was just stupid.

Third, Miranda was supposed to be a clever, strong woman was she was just silly, running around that foolish, cowardly man.

Finally, the jornal excerpts had a lot of potential, yet they seemed poorly written and childish.

All this to say I definitely won't finish this series.

VERY mixed feelings about this one. I liked parts of it and it had a lot of potential but there were also so many frustrating things about it. Turner’s whole thing about his dead wife was understandable at first but he kept making horrible decisions. Just so frustrating to read. Especially toward the last half of the book.

That was so sweet T-T

Well this was truly awful. And made worse by the audiobook narrator who really made some choices with these voices. Miranda has been in love with her best friend's brother Viscount Turner since she was 10 and he was nice to her once. She has written diaries pining for him ever since. She has a season, he is absolutely ATROCIOUS but I guess she loves him anyway. Turner is awful. I cannot express enough how awful. Not only awful but actually violent - he keeps violently grabbing wrists - his mother's, Miranda's! - or throwing women against a wall - HIS SISTER. LIKE WTF DUDE. Anyway, I am horrified this was a Julia Quinn. I can't believe it. Don't read it.

I think Miranda is a great character. I loved her quirky remarks and her interaction with Turner.

I'm honestly shocked at this book, it's mind boggling that this novel came from the same author who wrote such incredible books like the Bridgertons and the Smythe-Smith books.
The storyline was shocking, the hero was a horrible individual from the first page and I just couldn't understand the relationship he had with the heroine.
The heroine has loved the hero from childhood, the hero is the older brother of her best friend. The hero is a widower of a hateful, cheating wife and this has caused him to become jaded. In this story the hero acts like a complete idiot throughout the whole book, one minute he wants the heroine, then he doesn't want her, then he wants her again and won't take no for an answer.
He's rude, selfish, completely different for the hero's I've come to expect from Julia Quinn. The majority of Quinn's novels have all been 5 star reads for me but this was a total let down. Other books by Julia I've read over and over because they bring me so much joy, This is a book I want to forget about.

Good read. Don't know if I'll read the next two though.
