I wouldn’t say I enjoyed this book in the traditional sense but rather that I appreciated the opportunity to experience it. Dazai takes us on a raw, unflinching exploration of alienation, identity, and the darker facets of human nature. It is beautifully written yet emotionally brutal, confronting the reader with deep, unsettling honesty. It is unpleasant, tragic, and suffused with desperation, and it is this discomfort that I feel gives the book such depth. It’s not an easy read, but a good one.
