The writing of this was absolutely beautiful. It was like I could feel the salt on my skin, the sun on my face, the water against the ship. It was like I was on the Marigold with the crew.
I enjoyed this book but there were some aspects of it that bothered me, mostly with the relationship between West and Fable and the pacing of the story. The relationship seemed like it came out of no where. There were little hints here and there but I didn't feel any love connection between the two characters which brings us to the pacing. This book ended way too soon. There was a slow build up and then lots of info was revealed one after the other and then as I feel like we are FINALLY getting somewhere, BOOM. We end on a massive cliffhanger.
I really really enjoyed the found family aspect among the crew members. I liked what we saw of Saint and Fable's relationship because it was so intriguing to me. Saint is a grade A asshole of a person but I'm really curious if he's only playing by his rules by not letting Fable get close to him. "Never, under any circumstances, reveal what or who matters to you." Right?
I have so many theories about this book so I'm really stoked to read Namesake in March! There is so much potential here to be an incredible duology so I have my fingers crossed and my hopes up!

Saint's more interesting than West. I dunno, the romance is soooo unnecessary.

Shea Ernshaw's review is 100% accurate. I cannot wait for the second, because wow this blew me away. It's richly written, and the world comes to life clearly yet effortlessly through the eyes of Fable who is honestly one of my favorite YA protagonists (set her at the same table as Katniss, Zélie, Sabriel, and Sefia).
