I started out a little worried this was, for some reason, in the middle of a series that’s not fairytale retellings, a near exact Cinderella retelling. To my relief, it’s not. It has the essence of the Cinderella story but after the first 15-20% it flourishes beautifully into a very lovely original story.
I really enjoyed reading this one, and it had some really excellent moments and a great cast of characters. This is the first one where I haven’t seen the show before reading the book and I can finally say that I definitely think the books can stand on their own. In the last two I couldn’t tell if the characters were actually engaging or if it was just the memory of my love of the show keeping me invested, but this one settles it. Benedict and Sophie are so sweet and I love the two person love triangle trope.
I can’t wait to see how they take this sweet story and embellish it for tv. I can only imagine how much they’ll amp up the already insanely high tension and near constant pining. This is my favourite of the books so far!

This was a sweet story and I definitely took my time with it. I enjoyed Sophie’s pov and truly appreciated that she was respecting herself and her own boundaries despite giving up her love. She is a strong woman. This was a simple read. Really genuine with a bunch of tenderness. It had a good twist. 3.75 ⭐️

Started out as too much of the Cinderella story plot line but got better as it went on! Love this couple’s relationship

Unfortunately, Julia Quinn continues to write barely likeable male leads, but I stayed for the romantic tension which only just holds the story together. The weird pacing is the worst part, but I still enjoyed myself. The cottage scenes had me giggling and kicking my feet. My rating would be lower if I had never seen the show, but I trust them to improve upon the story as they did with TVWLM.
