I kind of enjoyed it but the plot twist made absolutely no sense and the whole book just ended up being really redundant

I honestly I am merely here to post the many plot holes I simply do not understand. The more I think about this book the more annoyed I get.

First off did the writer even google legal proceedings or watch an episode of Law & Order or like do anything to find out what happens in a murder case? Like at all? The author doesn’t even know the difference between a holding cell, a jail, and a prison.

Why is the sheriff so buddy buddy with the defense attorney? Sharing evidence? Letting her watch interrogations? What? Even if he was flirting? And why would he be flirting?

How are you testing DNA from a fetus very early in a pregnancy and matching it like immediately?

Also I believe you need a subpoena to get someone’s DNA. You can’t just run around matching DNA evidence from everyone you can think of.

So what was the deal with Scott? And Greg? WHO was abusing Kelly? What’s the story with the Sheriff’s DNA?

How are all these people being so openly disrespectful and beating each other up literally inside courthouses? Nobody is getting arrested? Ok.

How did Adam even escape? Why would he not just go directly to his mother if so? Why would he go to Rebecca’s? Why was she in a towel? Why did he kiss her? Why is he such a sleazy disgusting idiot this whole book?

Who was the mystery visitor? What was the point of that?

Why would Adam just hijack a random reporter to do random research for him? Why would Bob and Sarah assume that that would happen? Why would she disconnect his phone line?

Why would Annie send “end it or I will” to Adam if she wanted him to confess? Like even if she found out that information why would she do anything about it, let alone send a letter that was so obviously threatening? How are we supposed to believe her character, meek, kind, and obedient, would even do that?

So I’m supposed to believe it is a complete coincidence that Bob just happens to work at the same firm as Sarah, and that his former sister in law and her husband are having an affair? What are the odds!

She says she cannot afford a private investigator because she had to post bail?? Whaaaaaaat???? Meanwhile Adam is spending 10k on bedding? Help me understand why you wouldn’t spare any expense when it’s the death penalty.

Why would Adam call people saying some speech about how he’s basically looking for someone to pin his murder on instead of just simply asking “hi may I speak to Nick Miller?”

Also how was this an “open and shut case?” All they have is proof of an affair. There is no evidence that Adam did this, no weapon, no motive, nothing. There is more than a reasonable doubt there is literally no evidence.

2 weeks to do all the discovery and work needed to prep for a MURDER trial? 2 weeks? And why does her firm want this to be an open and shut case? She is involved. And this is good press for a criminal defense firm. Also why does a criminal defense firm have mostly corporate clients?

Are you telling me Adam did not notice that he was in bed with a dead woman who had been stabbed 37 times and had been bleeding out all night? He even touched her?

How does one just… make a list of people and then have a random person go “get” all their DNA and then somehow match it with a sample from the victim’s body that they don’t have access to? In like 5 hours?

Her and Bob? Random AF. What was the purpose of having them in very tense closed-door meetings? Was that foreplay or…?

You can’t have a whole book written in first person and then have the writer just flip like that. It makes no sense in contrast to her inner monologue. How am I supposed to believe that this entire elaborate plot was easier for Sarah then just getting a divorce? Why did she stab her 37 times? If it’s because Sarah is a lunatic, we have been inside her brain and know she is not (a narcissist, sure). So now I’m supposed to believe she is pure evil in the darkest sense? Totally unearned. She doesn’t even mourn the fact that Kelly was pregnant. It’s vile.

Thank you for listening to me rant and vent about this book. Hope this was as cathartic for you as it was for me.

And let’s not forget…Wtf was with the Rodney King line??? Did an editor even look at this?
