Stephen King is my comfort read when I'm feeling stressed or just need to relax. I love this collection and am looking forward to delving into it once more.
What’s more fun than reading a bunch of Stephen King short stories?
Dolan’s Cadillac - fantastic revenge story; possibly my favorite in this collection.
The End of the Whole Mess - A genuis younger brother tries to save the world and, well, it doesn’t turn out well.
Suffer the Little Children - A teacher goes crazy…not sure I totally blame her, though - WARNING - this one may be especially difficult to read now in light of the hundreds of school shootings since it was first published
The Night Flier - A guy searching for a vampire with a pilot’s license.
Popsy - Not gonna lie, kind of satisfying to see the bad guy get it here by, maybe, the same character as in the previous story?
It Grows on You - Didn’t really like this one.
Chattery Teeth - Honestly kind of fun, in a morbid way. One of my favorites.
Dedication - A woman has a baby but…you know what, its too weird to even try to describe and I want to forget this one anyway.
The Moving Finger - Like Chattery Teeth, fun and creepy.
Sneakers - Kind of a ghost story. Entertaining, fun and forgettable (which is not a bad thing).
You Know They Got a Hell of a Band - King has a few short stories of random towns in the middle of nowhere filled with danger to outsiders. This is one of my favorites in the collection.
Home Delivery - Zombie story that leaves you wanting to know more, like, will it really be fine?
Rainy Season - Another story of the demise of visitors to a small town.
My Pretty Pony - Something about the ravages of time; didn’t really connect with this one.
Sorry, Right Number - Also about time, that is, time-travel. Sort of.
The Ten O’Clock People - Another of my favorites. Here we have monsters taking over the world, Invasion of the Body Snatchers style, that only some of us can see.
Crouch End - Like so many here this is entertaining, keeps you on the edge of your seat but is quickly forgettable. I couldn’t remember it so I flipped to it and thought, “oh yeah that was pretty good.” Again, not a bad thing.
The House on Maple Street - weird sci-fi vibes and a dose of revenge.
The Fifth Quarter - Something about a treasure. One of my least favorites.
The Doctor’s Case - King wrote a Sherlock Holmes story! One of my favorites.
Umney’s Last Case - An author manages to switch places with his character and live in his created world; the character wants to get back in and get revenge.
Head Down - A nonfiction piece on little league baseball, featuring King’s son Owen. Not bad.
Overall, more good than bad. Some very good ones (as I noted above), a few good but forgettable ones and a few not so good ones.
