I think this may be true for most writers, but for me Stephen King is at both his best and his worst in the short story format. It’s probably more about just what works and doesn’t work for me personally, but I absolutely loved some of the stories in this collection and just wasn’t digging others at all. It averaged out to an enjoyable reading experience.

An amazing collection of short stories by Stephen king ,
A really good read if you go 2 stories per day .

I like the latter half of the book more than the former. The last three stories and the essay were the hits!!! Hoping to read more Stephen King!

It was ok, not one of his best book of short stories.

4 1/2 stars. I love how Stephen King can make the ridiculous and mundane not just a little bit creepy (sometimes quite creepy!) But give a short story fleshed out decent characters that you get invested in in such a tiny amount of time. A top 5, possible 3 author for me.

An amazing collection of stories. I enjoyed reading every single piece of writing in this book. (Yes, even the baseball essay. I barely understand sports, but "Head Down" was still very interesting.) My favorites were "You Know They Got a Hell Of a Band," "The Night Flier," "Sorry, Right Number" (which I think was the first King story I ever read, back when I found it in a 7th grade English class reading anthology), and, of course "The Doctor's Case" (I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan).

The best stories, in order of appearance;
Suffer the Little Children
Popsy
The Moving Finger
You Know, They've Got a Hell of a Band
Rainy Season
Sorry, Right Number
The Doctor's Case
Umney's Last Case

The rest of these aren't very good, they're mostly either too long or too schlocky to be enjoyable, or just not terribly exciting.

Favorite story was "The Moving Finger," & I love it even more after reading the author's notes on it. Never skip the author's notes, acknowledgements, or introductions; there's so much goodness in there.
