I've had goodreads since 2012 but I was not very familiar with it untill this year. I became more involved on goodreads as I started waching booktube and saw what a gteat community it is. This year has been great in terms of reading for me.

I've always loved reading but I was in the biggest reading slump for almost 3 years (don't know how it happened, so I'm gonna blame college). I got sucked back into the bookish world when I was on a long 18 hour flight and was bored so I decided to read. So there I was browsing through which cheapest ebook to buy when I saw pretty girl on the cover. I immediately bought it and started reading The Selection. I will always love and cherish that book as it brought me back to the reading world.

Ever since then I've been reading every spare time I can get. I've pretty much loved all of the 79 books I read this year. This year was absolutely epic in reading. I got to read Harry Potter the first time ever and oh boy do I love it! Anyways, I hope everyone of you had a great year as well and good luck for the year to come!

My favorites of 2016 (in no particular order)
Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling(Whole series)
Throne of Glass - Sarah J. Maas (Whole series)
The Lux Series - Jennifer L. Armentrout
Lunar Chronicles - Marissa Meyer (Whole series)
The Selection - Kiera Cass (Whole series)
Red Queen - Victoria Aveyard
Lola and the Boy Next Door - Stephanie Perkins
Hush Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick

FLOP 2016

1. [b:Amiche di salvataggio|9692505|Amiche di salvataggio|Alessandra Appiano|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1338221170s/9692505.jpg|14580635] di Alessandra Appiano

2016 was a good year for books. Next year I'll set me goal lower, as I plan to hit some bigger books.

Happy New Year readers!

I am strangely eager for this year in review. (I have to wait; I have a thing about closing out calendars.) In the meantime, thanks to Goodreaders everywhere for being a great community. It's been much needed this year.

Bye-bye, 2016. Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya.

Y'all, it's been one heck of a year.

There are a lot of things that I would like to say about 2016, but right now, this doesn't feel like the place. I want this last Goodreads post to be a positive post! (If you want to hear my feminist rantings about 2016 click here).

So without further ado, here are my favorite books of 2016!

My Top Five for the Year
1. The Others by Anne Bishop
Y'ALL! This series; I mean seriously, THIS! SERIES!
Okay, I'm going to be honest, I hardcore judged this book before I picked it up. I mean, was I really ready to read ANOTHER book with a bunch of vampires and werewolves?
description

So being the judgy-mcjudgy pants that I am, I ignored this book for THREE LONG YEARS, and I am pissed, because when I picked up the first book (Written in Red), I absolutely DEVOURED it.
description

Easily one of the best books of 2016, and possibly one of the best Urban Fantasy books I have EVER read.

So yeah, I know what your thinking, a lot of books start of strong, but start to fizzle out as they continue. BUT NO! Bishop came back stronger than EVER and absolutely just murdered the damn thing in books 2 and 3!
description

Anne Bishop's The Others series was consistently strong throughout its entirety and I cannot wait to tear through the 4th book & 5th book this week!

So, do yourself the favor in 2017 and pick up a copy of [b:Written in Red|15711341|Written in Red (The Others, #1)|Anne Bishop|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1411439502s/15711341.jpg|21378102]; I promise you won't regret it!

2. [b:The Name of the Wind|186074|The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1)|Patrick Rothfuss|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1472068073s/186074.jpg|2502879]
GODDAMN! This was a great year for Fantasy.
This was one of the most beautifully written books I have ever read, and it is the true definition of an epic Fantasy.

This book was a slow build, but at no point while I was reading did I ever feel bored, or impatient. It is very clear that all the information you are receiving as a reader is important, even if at the time it doesn't seem relevant.

This is one of those books that just truly takes your breath away, and you don't really know how to explain it to others, you just have to throw copies of the book at them and pray they are smart enough to know what's good for them, and that they'll read it.
description

3. [b:The Vegetarian|25489025|The Vegetarian|Han Kang|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1478196580s/25489025.jpg|18449744]
Anyone else here a fan of weird fiction? If so this one is for you.
I was absolutely captivated by this dark and fascinating tale about debilitating mental illness and vegetarianism.

This book is not for the faint of heart. I will admit that parts of this book triggered very real emotions and memories from my own battles with mental illness, so this is something readers should consider when picking up this book. Here is my review of the book if your curious before you pick it up.

Despite the darkness associated with the book 10/10 would read again and recommend to a friend!

4. [b:The Hatching|27276264|The Hatching (The Hatching #1)|Ezekiel Boone|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1467552021s/27276264.jpg|47452716]
Okay, so, 2016 may have been a dumpster fire, but I am not going to hate on all the fantastic new books that emerged from this shit show of a year.

I struggled with where to put this book on my Top 5 list; I thought that 4th place sounded kinda crummy, but you gotta realize this 4th place book is still a 4.5 out of 5 star book.

All you really need to know about this book is, SPIDERS. Just lots of fucking spiders.
So many spiders that they move like a body of water. A fast body of water, that can sometimes fly in the air with their webs. And can eat people.
A lot of people.
All the people.
description

I have not shut up about this book since I read it in April, and I think I have recommended it to almost every one I know, and even a few complete strangers who weren't even asking for book recommendation.

I was just so excited about this book.
It was fast, fun, and absolutely terrifying.
10/10 would recommend to anyone with a pulse.

5. [b:It Ends with Us|27362503|It Ends with Us|Colleen Hoover|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1470427482s/27362503.jpg|43940889]
So anyone who knows me is probably going to be REALLY surprised that there is a "romance" book in My Top 5 list, but DAMN! this book was good, and it just gut-punches you in the feels.
description

The thing is though, this really isn't a Romance; it's more women's fiction. But regardless, it was beautifully written, super feminist, and I got to meet Colleen Hoover on the day it came out, so that was pretty fuckin awesome!
description

I was SO pleasantly surprised reading It Ends With Us. This was such a powerful book with a real depth to it that I did not expect (shame on me for assuming). I was expecting a book full of a bunch of sexy times and not much in the way of substance. BOY WAS I WRONG!

So, I don't want to bore you my friends, with too many long winded reviews, so the rest of my favorite books from this year, I am going to condense into some small lists and try and run through them quickly.

Graphic Novels: Top 5

This book was absolutely terrifying, the artwork was insane, and they made a TV show out of it, what more could you possibly ask for?
2. [b:Saga, Volume 6|28862528|Saga, Volume 6|Brian K. Vaughan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1455727676s/28862528.jpg|48637040]
I mean, it's Saga, of course it's on the list. This series is fucking insane!
3. [b:The Wicked + The Divine: Year One|28533221|The Wicked + The Divine Year One|Kieron Gillen|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1459253269s/28533221.jpg|48692256]
This series is not only crazy entertaining, but I can't get over how feminist and powerful this series is. I can't wait to see where this goes in 2017.
4. [b:Sex Criminals, Volume One: One Weird Trick|19536001|Sex Criminals, Volume One One Weird Trick|Matt Fraction|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1396977214s/19536001.jpg|27662564]
Yes, this book might be about people stopping time through the power of orgasm and then robbing banks, but I assure you, you will be entertained, and if you are anything like me you will appreciate how feminist and sex positive this series is.
5. [b:Manifest Destiny, Vol. 1: Flora & Fauna|20881158|Manifest Destiny, Vol. 1 Flora & Fauna|Chris Dingess|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1392998657s/20881158.jpg|40221534]
This is a feminist, Sci-fi take on the Lewis and Clark exploration of "America". Pretty legit, and lots of fun.

*BONUS ROUND* [b:Black Panther: Who Is the Black Panther?|627201|Black Panther Who Is the Black Panther?|Reginald Hudlin|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1176463595s/627201.jpg|613548]
I know, I know. I am starting to sound like a broken record, but I can't help it that I like my graphic novels to intersectional and feminist! This is a must read for 2 reason: It gives reader an in depth look at the entity that is the Black Panther, and two it engages readers in thought and conversation about toxic black masculinity, which I think is super important.

Teen/Juvenile Fiction
1. [b:All American Boys|25657130|All American Boys|Jason Reynolds|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1444506678s/25657130.jpg|45479026]
This is the book that most Americans don't want to exist, but that we so desperately needed. A massive thank you to Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely.
2. [b:Lumberjanes To The Max Edition, Vol. 1|26240977|Lumberjanes To The Max Edition, Vol. 1|Noelle Stevenson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1441586807s/26240977.jpg|46233178]

This is one of those books of poetry that you devour quickly in one sitting, but then return to again and again because of the truth and pain in which it contains.
3. [b:Between the World and Me|25489625|Between the World and Me|Ta-Nehisi Coates|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1451435027s/25489625.jpg|44848425]

I read this for an assignment, but I was so impressed by the way the author presented this information that I had to add it to this list. This is a YA Nonfiction book, and is perfect to share with teen readers!
5. [b:The Great Fire|142976|The Great Fire|Jim Murphy|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1360058127s/142976.jpg|3301302]

It's been four days into 2017, but I really do want to write this. I'm certainly not a favourite reviewer of anyone, nor am I someone's special friend. 2016 wasn't the best year in my personal life: it saw me throw fits, get depressed, and even self-harm. I'm not proud of it, but that's what happened. At the same time, I don't have any hopes whatsoever for 2017 to be any better, so I'd rather stay in my summer vacations of 2016.

However, here on Goodreads, I had a rather good time. I met a lot of great friends - a big shout out to each and every one of them for being such amazing friends - always there for me when I'm over the moon or down the mud. My darling bookclub, Drop Everything And Read, was featured on Goodreads' featured groups list from June through December, thereby increasing the number of members from 490 to 3800+! However, I also had to delete a group due to lack of activity, but I did recreate it, though still almost as inactive as it was when I decide to delete it. And surprisingly this year, I did not have to face any drama on Goodreads. I've fought with friends in the past - made enemies out of them, but this year, I only made great friends and successfully stayed drama free online.

At the same time, I missed a lot of my friends who decided to take a hiatus from Goodreads. Every friend of mine online - whether they are on my friends list or not - is special to me. I would say I was rather disappointed that I could not talk to them much in the previous year. Hopefully I can talk to them in 2017! I also mourn the loss of many great people, including the author of my favourite book, [a:Harper Lee|1825|Harper Lee|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1188820730p2/1825.jpg].

4.0

My 2016 reading was ultimately satisfying, I came into it with the goals of: reading 100 books, reading more from my to-read piles that I already own, and more hard scifi. And even though I spent the last two month of the year struggling to finish a book, any book, I still hit the 100.

The highlights were diving deep into the Robin Hobb Farseer Trilogy, and the glorious finish to Pierce Brown's "Red Rising" series. I also spent the last week of the year reclaiming an old bedroom and turning it into a library.

I've adjusted my goal for next year to 52 books. And while this hurts my soul to think of the 48 other books I'll miss, I want to dig into some large brick series (more Robin Hobb, the Tad Williams stuff starting with "Dragonbone Chair," Brandon Sanderson megauniverse, the Expanse series) and don't want to feel that I have to shove a bunch of short stuff into the cracks to make a "goal." Plus, who knows, I may hit that 100 anyway. We'll see this time next year!
