Delightfully written, I really like Jane Austen's humour.

I'm unsure if I'm happy with the ending though - I would have liked her to stick to her resolution to never get married, but Mr. Knightley is awesome (except for the age gap?) and it might underline her character development.

Third read (2025): 4.5 stars

This book is a little tedious to read with all the long and mostly pointless conversations, but there is a reason that the story is a classic.

sorry but it’s pretty boring! it’s just tedious conversation followed by tedious conversation followed by tedious conversation followed by mistaking romantic feelings followed by tedious conversation followed by...

I’m a broken record but I just love Jane Austen. I had never read this one or seen any of the movies before, so it was fun to go in blind. I do feel like after reading a few of her books, the plots do get somewhat predictable, but here’s the thing- I’m okay with it because she essentially tells the reader upfront what’s going to happen, but it’s not outright. It’s in the subtle character descriptions when they’re first introduced. And it feels fun to feel like you’re in on the secret or seeing the same things she’s seeing as the author, even if the characters don’t see them yet. It was kinda fun to have a different type of heroine from her other books I’ve read - one who’s well off and comes from higher status. I thought that was just interesting to see how it affected her thought process compared to some of her other leading ladies. The book was charming- so glad I finally read it!!
