I really enjoyed this book a lot. In typical first book in a series fashion, it was a little bit slow to get into it, but by the time I got to the 50% mark I was completely hooked by this world and this story. I am so excited to see what happens in this world next.
I love this book so much!!! I thought From Blood and Ash was my favorite fantasy novel this year. Now it’s in second because AK Mulford just wrote the best fantasy novel of the year.
The characters are well developed. The plot is great!! The world building is lovely. There is LGBTQ representation.
I love Remy and Hale so much!!
Go preorder your copy now!! You won’t regret it!
This is my honest review of an ARC copy of The High Mountain Court-but, full disclosure, I had already preordered a copy before I was chosen for an ARC.

I really wanted to like this book more than I did. For the first two thirds or so I felt like I was reading a typical popcorn romatasy. A little predictable, some plot holes, and too much tell and no show. But I still was having fun.
However, somewhere towards the end I started rolling my eyes at the plot twists and reveals that had no punch or were walked back shortly after. This book moved very fast and unfortunately didn’t bring the emotional impact along with it. Many of these plot lines could have had a great effect if they had been better developed.
I did enjoy aspects of this book though, like the representation, but it just didn’t quite get me there. I may try out the next book in the series to see if it gets better.

Continuing with the theme of late — I wanted more form this book. It was sold on bookstagram as a better-than-ACOTAR, and maybe it felt that way at the begging, but by the end I was over it and skipping pages so I could finish faster. The whole fated-mates plot was so good, until the scene in the woods at the middle end with the eavesdropping of a fae fire call — that just felt rushed and done with and I felt it deserved more breaking down.
Wow, I absolutely loved this and for some reason I didn’t expect to.
I annoyingly felt this was going to be another over hyped fae book that tiktok recommended, but I really loved it.
From the beginning I instantly loved the writing style and it had a page-turning quality that made it hard to put down. The characters were extremely likeable and our main character Remy deviated from the typical ‘weak to strong to weak to strong’ character arc in the best way possible.
There was strong plot and action and I never felt bored throughout. Even the world building was done in a way that seemed easily digestible and I felt I was living in the world from the start. In particular, the witches magic system felt like a really original concept.
Best of all, this book has amazingly diverse representation. It’s rare to get a main character who’s a POC in fantasy, let alone also LGBTQ+ and non binary rep. It felt very inclusive yet also relaxed in the sense that the book was not ABOUT those things but they were just there, like in the real world. It was incredibly nice to have characters who had plots outside of racism and homophobia.
Overall I am so excited to read book 2, especially after that ending (which made me cry btw) and can’t wait to read more about Remy!

ENG REVIEW
What do I think? This first book was just unpredictable. A story that amazed me from the first pages with fantasy atmospheres that takes inspiration from acotar and the "serpent & dove" trilogy. Here too we have the enemies to lovers, this time between a Fae prince and a witch, but also the found family trope which I found simply perfect for this adventure and for the choices that the author wanted to make. I thought it would turn out to be a copy of many other books, but in the end I found it original, credible even in the spicy scenes and in the romance that never turned out to be excessive or banal.
I also loved the idea of focusing each book in the series on different characters.
I advise you to read it and retrieve it because it will amaze you and the ending will surely leave you speechless.
Thanks once again @harpercollinsit for the copy and for the opportunity! I can't wait to tell you about the second one!
