5/5

I really enjoyed this book, it’s a fast paced fantasy romance with fae and witches and diversity. Within the book we see nonbinary fae & many queer characters as well as a range of skin tones that aren’t described by referencing food. The world was very intriguing and I can’t wait to see more of it in the rest of the series. I adore the main couple and how their relationship progressed felt well paced and not like some books where it is instant love. I had gone into this book with slightly low expectations because it was compared to ACOTAR and often books that are compared to ACOTAR don’t actually stand up to it or really compare at all, but this one is almost like ACOTAR but with more diversity within it’s characters.

The book follows Remy, who is a Red witch from the High Mountain court who is hiding in a tavern from witch hunters and those who wish to rid the land of those from the High Mountain Court. Her and her friends, Fernin and Heather, are found by a Prince of the Eastern Kingdom who wants her help to save his kingdom from the same fate as hers by finding artifacts that only a Red witch can find.

In this world there are different kinds of witches that all felt well developed with their powers, especially the ones that we see. The side characters didn’t feel like they were just there for Remy’s benefit but they had their own personalities, motivations, and storylines. I would recommend this for fans of Sarah J Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout, as it is a high fantasy world, with fae and witches, diversity (LGBTQ+ and POC), and spice.
