An excellent book. El-Attar does stunning work on the audio version. The mystery maybe goes a bit longer than I would like, but the characters are so enjoyable that finishing the book is a treat.

Loved the world building and characters, didn't love the (repetitive) stating of the obvious, or the plot. (Initially I didn't like Hadida but realised that was because she got lumped with 'stating the obvious' job the most, once I ignored all those comments she improved). The drawing out of the plot hinged on

internalised sexism

, which is a trope that deeply irritates me, and I just didn't buy that from Fatma.

Wowwwwww. Now this guy can write women, and let them be powerful ass lesbians at the same time!!! This took me forever to read, but it was worth it. The mystery, the characters, the world, having romance as a side-plot, all made for a truly wonderful read. Also I’m very much in love with Siti 🤭 she has CLAWS COME ON
