I had to sit on this one, just read it on my phone on the kindle app, thought it’d be your average horror short story but it really wasn’t. The symbolism was crazy and the more I thought about it the more came to light for me. There was a lot of sexism, John didn’t believe the MC about her mental issues, and dismissed anything she mentioned about her illness. The ending was kind of foreshadowed, with the MC remarking that the paint was coming off the wall, about as high as she could reach, almost as if this “prison” was made for her. It saddened me that MC had to become crazy to get freedom, which is still perceived as true to this day, I see podcasts where men wonder why women don’t just want to be housewives, and almost act as if these women are crazy or dumb for wanting to do what they want with their lives. It’s sad

my rating might be reflective of a lack of comprehension, but don’t get me wrong, this was a weird, good read. it reminds me of something i would read in english class and because of that i have mixed feelings.

after some research the metaphors and message make more sense and i like it but don’t see myself thinking about it in the future a great deal.
