I really enjoyed this book, it’s heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. Callie and Joel add so much to each other’s lives even though they don’t end up together. It’s a unique premise and I love that although it’s not a typical Happy Ever After, both characters end up happy, and I love that Callie passed away with Joelle that was fated to happen.

I have been battling for days with this review. I’ve found that I have very little to say about this book. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it. But I found it so wrapped up in a bow that there’s not much room for analysis. I have resorted to a list:

  1. Callie was lovely. She exuded warmth to those around her and accepted Joel exactly the way he was.
  2. Joel was intense, flaky and I believe deserving of sympathy.
  3. Joel and Callie were a good match.
  4. Joel had some really exceptional friends.
  5. It felt like it should have been more of a big deal to the plot when Joel began telling people about his dreams. I think it was handled too casually. Everyone accepted so easily. I think scepticism and anger from maybe one character would have made it easier to swallow.
  6. I am glad Callie moved on from Joel and was able to find love and fulfilment elsewhere, and of course become a mother. She deserved that.
  7. That Callie did move on made me think that there is not only just one great love of a persons life, and reaffirmed that I don’t buy in to “soulmates.”
  8. Joel would never have moved on from Callie while she was still alive. He has the chance to now she is dead but I don’t think he will. For me the rest of Joel’s life will be him thriving in his veterinary practice, maximising his relationship with his friends and family, and indulging in his new-found hobbies and healthy lifestyle. I think there’s more than enough there for contentment.

I give this book 3.5

Books that i love love love don't come around very often and i can easily say this book about love and loss is easily just that. It had a very tear jerking plot to it and i loved it all beginning to end, i wish i could hear more of what happens next, but it was a very final ending one which would make all readers feel very happy with.
