brother you guys are crazy but i’m not judging you
My first dark romance, and I’ll always be grateful for that, but looking back now (many books deep into the genre), this one doesn’t fully hold up. It’s not the triggers that bothered me, I can handle unhinged, I welcome the dark, it’s the lack of depth in Zade’s character. He’s portrayed as this dark savior rescuing trafficking victims, yet his actions toward Adeline are the complete opposite of what he stands for. That contradiction could’ve worked if the character had any emotional logic or inner conflict, but to me, he felt flat, hypocritical, and underdeveloped.
Still, it opened the door for me, and I don’t regret reading it. I just wish Zade had been written with more complexity.

Darker, heavier, and honestly more enjoyable than the first, mostly because the focus shifted to Adeline. I know she’s a divisive character, but I appreciated her arc and the way her trauma and strength were handled. I’m still not a fan of Zade (nothing about him worked for me in book 1, and that didn’t change much here), but Adeline carried this story. Watching her evolution gave the plot more weight and kept me engaged.
A tough read at times, but a better book overall, not because it toned anything down, but because it deepened the perspective.

I surprisingly really liked this series. This one was a bit harder to get through though
