I am absolutely speechless. This book made me feel things.
I feel like I’m trying to process this but I don’t know if I ever truly will do here are my thoughts anyways.
Adeline Reilly is so dark and twisty, so awkward and introverted, so strong and confident, so loyal and protective. She is rivaling many female MCs on complexity alone. She is so well written and human, I kinda believe she exists in the world? Addie is an indie book author who recently inherited Parson’s Manor from her Nana that meant so much to her. We don’t know the full depth of Addie’s childhood, only that her mother is cold and cruel, her father is really nonexistent, and her best friend/basically sister, Daya, is the other half of her. Daya as a secondary character was phenomenal - she was a voice of reason, while also being supportive and non-judgmental, and extremely useful as a skilled hacker. I want a Daya in my life.
Throughout the story we get glimpses of the darkness living within Addie that honestly make her extremely endearing to me. She believes in the ghosts of the manor, the demonic energy existing in the attic, she gets off on fear and lives for Halloween. And she spends most of this book trying to solve the murder of her great grandma, Gigi, after finding her diaries about falling in love with her stalker. MEANWHILE trying to come to terms with her very own shadow (history repeating itself???).
Zade is arguably the most morally grey character I’ve ever read. Honestly he’s on the verge of pure blackness. But the honesty in that (oh and the fact that he is literally dedicating his life to rescuing trafficked women and children) makes you fall in love with him anyways. Addie never stood a chance. We live through Zade’s POV between obsessing over Addie and saving victims from fucked up people (while he tortures and kills the latter). We don’t get any excuses for his behavior - he is what he is, without any shame.
This whole book is pretty messed up, but tells their story so intensely I had a hard time putting it down. The cliffhanger is brutal, I am very fortunate that I waited until the final book is out to start the series. It’s definitely not for everyone - you need to read the trigger warnings.
But the story is horrific and mesmerizing and it’s a constant rollercoaster of emotions. It’s really really well written and perfectly complex. It has mystery and romance, amazing characters, and a dark setting. It goes into depth on the depravity of humanity. It hurts to read at times - knowing that human trafficking and abuse is happening in the world right now, as we speak. We all need to channel our inner Zade and fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.

This book was HEAVY. Oooooof, my heart hurts and my gut is clenched from reading this still.
As much as it was horrifying to read, it also was so beautiful to see Addie become the survivor. She found strength in Zade and herself after the absolute torture she endured, and reading her story was so inspiring. The romance in this book, I’ll hold onto it for awhile.
This series is one that’s going to haunt me, and I think that’s exactly what the author wanted (fitting, really… with the titles and the vibes). It’s extremely triggering and difficult to read at times, so readers beware what you’re getting yourself into.
I wish this one had more of the mystery and the plot that book 1 had, between the murder and the stalking. But I do get why the author chose to write their story in this direction. It was extremely realistic for how someone can survive the trauma Addie went through and live with it. And as uncomfortable as it makes you, you realize human trafficking is happening in our world every day and it hurts even more.
At least there is a happy ending for our favorite cat and mouse, but man it was tough to get there. I also wish the destruction for our main villain would’ve been more complex, it felt convenient when all I wanted was for their absolute humiliation and demise.
This book was wayyyy more than a dark romance - it also weirdly felt like an exposé to things that most of us are blind to. It’s a weird feeling. But I’m glad I read it.

3.75 stars!
I definitely liked this one more than Haunting Adeline. Granted, I know a lot of people didn’t like it/it’s not for everyone. I personally liked this one more because I felt the story progressed really well and just was a lot more going on than the first. It makes sense, with Haunting setting ground work for the story to get to where it is in Hunting but still, I feel like the character development was there, I really liked the side characters (love Jay and crazy Sibby), and felt like I can understand the characters a lot more. I think they tied it up nicely and left off with a nice little cliff hanger that I believe will connect with Satan’s Affair and Where’s Molly. Couldn’t quite get to a 4 star tho, I just don’t feel that DEEP of a connection and love for the character, but loved Zade and Adeline grew on me A LOT. I really didn’t like her in Haunting lol

While I like darker-toned romances, I think I draw the line at being raped with a gun.
Yeah, nah.

First dark romance in a while and yes I loved the creepy messed up stuff and him stopping human trafficking was a nice balance to the moral grey mmc but the general plot was very predictable. You knew something was going to go wrong, he was either going to get caught or she was going to get kidnapped. Hate when books split up the main couple, so I will read the next book but just a bit deflated on that ending spicy scenes were insane though, so so good
