Edit: I recently watched ContraPoint’s video essay on Twilight (yes.) and had a change of heart on Dark Romances, particular on the idea that they can be dangerous. As I said before, though ravishing erotica isn’t for me, it has its place with other peeps and that’s just fine. Love that for you! I think the ideology that dark romance carries dangerous themes is a bit hypocritical of me, especially as someone who enjoys vampire romance. I am removing my rating and no thoughts head emptying over this- with the exception that I acknowledge and accept the place of ravish erotica in people’s lives. Have fun y’all! (The ghost subplot is still weird/out of place tho lol.)

I’m usually not too critical of writing ability, mostly because I’ve never really studied writing to a large extent/never am too impacted by it. But people. This writing is not the best. Most smut isn’t top tier, but this is probably the most true case for it I’ve seen so far. As I mentioned before, I don’t want to kink shame those who find this level of erotica for them- great that you found what works for you, it’s not for me, and I’m fine with that. However, I think this book carries dangerous ideologies (involving SA/relationships/politics) that if not properly addressed/acknowledged by the reader, could lead to pretty severe circumstances in the long run. I think it’s important to note that this is fiction and not real. Always get consent from partners, use a safe word, really REALLY check your sources for political information, FACT CHECK!!!, and most importantly, if you think you have a ghost in your house, check to see if it’s actually a ghost or just a stalker/home invader. Maybe leave the house. Maybe move.

Started reading before I did my research (I know, bad job me) and then I found out about all the antisemitism and Q Anon stuff and no thanks. It’s really too bad because the book started out interesting, but I was reading on KU and don’t want to be putting money in someone like that’s pocket. Make sure to research before reading.
