Haunting Adeline

I definitely liked this one more than Haunting Adeline. Granted, I know a lot of people didn’t like it/it’s not for everyone. I personally liked this one more because I felt the story progressed really well and just was a lot more going on than the first. It makes sense, with Haunting setting ground work for the story to get to where it is in Hunting but still, I feel like the character development was there, I really liked the side characters (love Jay and crazy Sibby), and felt like I can understand the characters a lot more. I think they tied it up nicely and left off with a nice little cliff hanger that I believe will connect with Satan’s Affair and Where’s Molly. Couldn’t quite get to a 4 star tho, I just don’t feel that DEEP of a connection and love for the character, but loved Zade and Adeline grew on me A LOT. I really didn’t like her in Haunting lol

While I like darker-toned romances, I think I draw the line at being raped with a gun.

Yeah, nah.

First dark romance in a while and yes I loved the creepy messed up stuff and him stopping human trafficking was a nice balance to the moral grey mmc but the general plot was very predictable. You knew something
was going to go wrong, he was either going to get caught or she was going to get kidnapped. Hate when books split up the main couple, so I will read the next book but just a bit deflated on that ending
spicy scenes were insane though, so so good

“I have asked the fucker to get a less noisy keyboard, but he insists the loud clicking brings him peace.” - This is the only thing from this book that I can get on board with as a mechanical keyboard owner. Because what in the actual f**k is this? I have doubled in dark romance. Shockingly enough, I’ve even read a gun scene (you know what I’m talking about) in a dark romance. But I cannot get behind this particular kink of stalking and non-consensual acts on the premise that they will eventually be consensual. That’s a big no, absolutely not, do not pass go, do not collect $200, you’re sent to jail. The whole cold case juxtaposition would be more fun if there were more of actual, oh, I don’t know, haunting. And the cliffhanger? I don’t even know if I can be bothered enough to find out in the next book. I’m the minority in my review, and I’ll take that if it means I can erase this book from my memory. If you want a laugh, there’s a trio of booktok girlies from Australia that have one of them listen to the chapter of the audiobook. It’s incredible and makes me feel better to know that we all were tormented together.
