I refuse to give this book any less than a 5 and here is why.
First of all... yes... this book is clearly demented. It depicts graphic scenes, torture, manipulation, fetishes, multiple triggering scenes, etc. I can see why many people would be turned away from this writing because it can worsen and impact your mental health.
HOWEVER. This book is so raw, genuine, and unapologetically honest. The book is NOT sexualizing or encouraging the pain and suffering of human trafficking or r**e. The whole point of Z is to end it. It does force the reader to experience the horrible side of what unfortunately IS a problem. But I can understand that the writing is trying to highlight how human trafficking is a current issue and how it can affect society and a person's most vulnerable inner self.
Throughout the book the main characters learn to understand and grow from their darkness rather than allow it to consume them. It depicts the results of being a victim to this type of crime and how they choose to transform after its effects.
It is also truly a love story. One that defies the typical relationship and makes you question their sanity, but the beauty in this story is their ability to accept one another despite their imperfections and shortcomings. They fetishize dangerous behaviors while consenting to it in their own way. The theme of control in this book is truly about what makes THEM feel powerful and alive.
It is honestly brilliant writing and I can appreciate what this story was portraying. I see the book for what it is: an imperfect and morally grey love story. And who is anyone to judge what makes them feel good/alive/loved? They decided this for themselves and I see the power in that.

This book is so not for the faint hearted…. Covering heavy themes that are very very confronting, taboo romance ❤️
This was my first dark romance book and I jumped into the deep end with this hearing others saying it was so dark. I have to agree that there are very dark themes in this book but it was also eye opening. I found myself hooked from the beginning and kept reading to find out more. I read it while listening to the audiobook. I did enjoy this book most of the time. I did see the big twist coming at the end of the book, just not who was involved in it. But it was well written and, as I said, I mostly enjoyed reading this.

It's dark, it's weird, it's intriguing. Did I mention WEIRD? Very... But it's good. You get captured by the story easily and just need to know how it goes. Both Addie and Zade are rather interesting characters... They're twisted and traumatized, disturbed... And somehow they work pretty well together in the end. The warning list goes on and on, be aware. I'm interested where the second book goes... And about Sibbie hopefully coming back on scene

Iam so conflicted about I feel about Zade.
I've read and own this book time to see what the audio is like.
Of course it's Teddy Hamilton this man is everywhere.
Given a house in this economy I would definitely keep it.
People who read and like dark romance 'something wrong with me'.
Zade is a hypocrite not wanting to traumatise the trafficked girls he saves but will traumatise Adeline by stalking her.
Men will do that kill a mood.
I hate men who call woman birds we're not fucking pigeons peck there damn eyes out.
It takes ages for Adeline to even properly see/talk/ meet Zade. I thought it happened much sooner.
They finally interact properly. Both with a knife in there hand.
The infamous gun scene.
Zade is a odd character you like him for his work killing predators, taking down pedo rings but hate him for stalking and assaulting Adeline.
The belt scene.
The frist kiss initiated by Adeline.
I don't remember Zade thinking 'fuck me with a pogo stick'.
The house of mirrors.
Adeline was in the house of mirrors for 2 hours and Adeline friend didn't call the police I would of.
I know anyone can be trafficked but Adeline is a well known author it would be risky to kidnapped and traffic her would it not?
I don't remember GG stalker/ lover Ronaldo dying of a broken heart.
Zade house is probably like Fort Knox so why not ask Adeline to stay there? she would be well protected.
