Not going to lie this wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, (guess that’s what comes of reading some really messed up horror stories when I was a teenager) although I can see why others had issues with it.
TBH I wasn’t keen on Zade , thought his character was off mainly because of how he was all protecting of women and children but then treats Adeline the way he did and that’s the only reason I didn’t give it five stars. I enjoyed the writing, loved the haunted house side plot, and enjoyed the rest. Give it a go but please make sure you read the trigger warnings before going in

Okay, so, yes; I knew from the get go that this had a very strong content warning, touched on some very delicate subjects. Okay, I kept that in mind.  I still wasn’t prepared for what I encountered here.

The approach to basically everything in this book was, at the very least, questionable. I am not, by any means, against bringing sensitive themes into stories. I just think there are definitely a thousand better ways to do it. Some scenes were absolutely impossible to get through.

One or two chapters in, I thought for a brief minute that the tension buildup was actually good. Only to find it went downhill from there.

The plot falls short. The main characters are contradictory and not in an interesting way; feels like their whole storyline is just  repeating the same three or four sentences in a loop, mixed with some pretty effed up stuff that seems to have come from the depths of Wattpad.

Not to mention trying to put some kind of weird, romantic spin on a literal r*pist, wtf was that about?
(“Oh, but he saves kids!” If anyone thinks that one shabby plotline excuses any of the scenes that follow, I don’t think we’ve read the same book).

I had to stop at a point to check some reviews somewhere to see if anyone else was thinking the same thing, or if I was just reading everything wrong.

Very rarely do I leave a book unfinished like this, and very rarely do I write reviews like this, but what in the fresh hell was this?

I liked Zades backstory, I enjoyed the cat/mouse interaction and the smut part was good but I felt the book was cringy at times and needed better editing and writing in some parts. I see why Addie’s great grandmas murder was involved but it felt like a side quest and wasn’t explored enough.
