Picking up William Kent Krueger's Cork O'Connor series is like returning to my old friends. This one, the sixth in the series, was a bit different than the others, in that it focused entirely on Cork. In this novel, he is on the run and hides out at his cousin's cabin resort in Michigan. Of course, trouble finds him anyway.

One of the things that I love about this series is that while the books are plot driven, the arc of the series includes very intricate and nuanced character development. I really felt that in this one. I am seeing Cork develop a lot as a character, and that's really fun. Of course, the plot was captivating with a solid amount of suspense. I flew through the last 2/3 of this book and immediately picked up Thunder Bay, the seventh installment.

I'm a fan

I'm a fan of Krueger and his work O'Connor series and this installment didn't disappoint. I accidentally read this book out of order and have to go back and read Mercy Falls. But each book can stand on it's own and Copper River has a compelling story, engaging characters and a satisfying conclusion.

A good book on it's own, but I thought Mr. Krueger glossed over the subject matter of his last book. This one was certainly a serial, but he paid little attention to the last one. As I said, it stands alone as a very good book...but left me hanging for nothing.

After being turned off by the last Cork O’Connor book due to the family violence, I really liked this suspenseful book with strong and resilient kids participating in the solving of crimes.
