The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw

The writing felt a little like the author had used a thesaurus to sound as smart as possible. She might know the correct usages of all those words, which is great, but I found their use incredibly distracting from the already vague plot happenings. Too vague for me to care about anything, regardless of the pretty writing.

Gorgeous, evocative and absolutely gore soaked. The terror and intimacy of consuming the other. Deep world building that trusts the audience.

there’s something interesting here but i feel like the author’s focus on crafting the most poetic sentences possible gets in the way of the actual story at times. feels less like a book and more like a collection of “excerpts from a book i’ll never write”
