SUPER fast paced and you are immediaetly thrown into this dark fantasy world of immortal plague doctors and mermaids washed ashore. Soon the two find themselves in the home of a weird cult that might have more signifigance than meets the eye.

A strange poetic anti-fairytale. A story of love found in the queerest places and the raw experience of flesh. Persevere with the language, it is not simply a pretentious saffect.
Although my brain struggles with fantasy themes, I gave this book a four star because I appreciate beautiful writing.
I just want to point out from reading this is how absolutely artistic it is. So vivid with imagery, lovely vocabulary, it was just so fantastic. It honestly felt like I was watching a romance/thriller short film. Very poetic and romantic and the epilogue just absolutely ends it all perfectly. This was an absolutely lovely short read and I recommend this 100%.

I listened to the audio version and I don't think this writing style lends itself to audio very well. I got a sense of the imagery but I was having trouble connecting the scenes to the plot. I also found several of the complicated word choices to be unnecessary and grandiose.

DNF at page 27. Story was a good idea but fell flat in execution. I had to stop reading it because it felt like the author had a thesaurus for every second word; for a book that’s only 100 pages long, it felt like an eternity to get through 25 pages.
