This was such an interesting tale. A unique glimpse into the legal world when challenges were many and recognition non-existent for any females that passed the bar. And this is exacerbated by the color of this woman's skin. What an inspiration.

If you want to read a family memoir about a grandmother who worked as a lawyer, with side stories about activist great-grandparents and Communist great uncles, then this is the book for you. If you're looking for an in-depth look at the prosecutors who worked the Lucky Luciano case, a quarter of this book is for you.

Could have been shorter, and the narrator saying "sass-ciety" is very noticable.
informative sad slow-paced

I enjoyed learning about the subject, but the writing was incredibly dry, even for a non-fiction book.

I think this book is about an important topic, but I found it hard to get into, especially once I discovered the endnotes (my least favorite way of annotating books). I think maybe it was a case of "wrong time" for me, more than wrong book.

I was really excited to read this story. A black female prosecutor was essential in the take down of one of the most prolific gangsters, Lucky Luciano.
I had never heard of this person or her life. I loved the parts of the story that that related to this trial. However all of the back story and surrounding story info was dull and overdone.
