⭐️⭐️🌶️🌶️ I’m trying hard to push through series I haven’t finished &I’m finding out why I haven’t finished them.

* I hate the typical stereotype of a plus size woman having a loud mouth &personality the size of her body. That was pushed so much &we had to keep being reminded of that.

* I didn’t care for either main character. They both had their issues &they were real life issues people deal with regularly so that was good to see but otherwise everything about them was bland. I can’t tell you a positive thing about either of them.

* I did like the father daughter relationship Lucy &Tom had.

* The best part of the book was the audio.

* This was a bland rom-com without much to remember.

Themes:
* Fake dating
* Plus size FMC
* High school reunion

Uggh wasn’t a big fan of this book. The story is good enough but some of the dialogue is so cringy.

Another day, another romcom. I have decided that I officially must read all books in the Harbor City Universe... so on to the next!

This is a cute story with some smiles, some laughs, some self-hate, and some strong MCs.

Lucy is our "muffin top," a plus-size girl heading home for her high school reunion. Or at least she was planning on it, but she decided against it at the last minute. She decided, since she didn't have a date, there was no point in subjecting herself to the cruelty of her past. (I wonder why she even thought of going anyway, but who am I?) Then Frankie steps in to defend her against a jackass at the bar and pretends to be her date. And then leads to the "fake date to my HS reunion" trope.

I did like the main characters, and I will read the rest of the Hartigans books. Some side characters are fun. It's a slow burn, light steam room com. I give it a 3.5-3.75 rounded up.

Like Butterface, Avery Flynn brings a heroine that is, unfortunately, not typically accepted by society easily. Muffin Top, while funny and adorable, highlights real issues in today’s society for people above the “standard” (please!) size 2:
Bigger women are avoided and ignored
Bigger women are looked down upon for what they eat; people assume that food is 100% the blame
Bigger women are viewed as being unable to do the same physical activities (the race)
The list goes on. I could mention a few more things that this book highlights.

I see this books are being critiqued for how annoying the characters are and how they are always highlighting their own faults. This second part may be true, but I find it semi-realistic. Although not myself, I speak from experience with my mother and friends. When someone is told something over and over (“you’re fat” “you’re ugly” “you are dumb”, etc.), they do start to believe it. So although Lucy may like herself for her, she’s also not blind to the fact that not everyone does. She tells herself that he won’t like her for her...because it is what always happens. So can we blame these characters for thinking and reminding readers of their own “imperfections”? No.

Onto happier things...This book is so cute. Frankie just warms your heart. He’s so caring about her. Not once, even in the beginning, did we get even a thought about her weight. For him, it wasn’t there.

I didn’t like it as much as Butterface, but it was still fantastic and I look forward to starting Tomboy.

 Muffin Top started with a good note. Sadly, I can not connect with the banter. I like the characters. Both Lucy and Finley are cute together. Miss Flynn tried her best to bring the chemistry alive.

Sadly it is just not connect with my taste.
