The middle of this book was like an accident about to happen, I couldn't look away even though I knew it wasn't going to be good. The ending surprised me though.

Was left with the same feeling after I read "Love the one you're with". Seems cheating spouses is her favourite theme. Weak unlikeable characters too.

We’ll written and captivating. However I didn’t like the ending and hate two of the main characters.

3.5 Had a hard time imagining a Wellesley prof on the tenure track would ever give it up to be a stay-at-home mom. But I appreciated the care and sympathy with which Giffin portrayed all three parties.

I have to admit I read the reviews prior to this book and I was determined to not allow it to make me feel the same way as others felt. However, this book was terribly hard to get through. One of the reasons for this is that all of the characters were effin annoying. They all seemed to be completely oblivious to everyone except themselves. It was like reading about the most selfish creatures ever written about.
Tessa - My husband would NEVER cheat on me. I feel like any woman who utters this in real life is already setting those exact things into motion. It was no different with this book. But as much as I wanted to see her as a victim, I couldn't... I almost wanted him to cheat on her because she was that annoying.

Nick - a man. The man. Typical BS about how he's a child plastic surgeon so he has to be better than the average man. Yet, he is still a dick and can't keep the aformentioned in his pants. Hated him from the moment she met him on the train. Idiotic husband character.

Valerie - As a former single mother myself, I wanted to see it from her point of view. But I never played the... "I'm a single mother I'm lonely so cry me a river" type single mother... so this lady... I hated most of all. As a lawyer and person she just seemed weak. How did she get through law school if she was this freaking bendable?

All in all... unrealistic... vapid... annoying characters that I wish I had never met... The End!!!!

Found my favorite dentist joke on pg. 16!

Plus, a nod to a great Don Henley song in the title.
