Well told and integrated Nordic legends, but for whatever reason the book just never pulled me back. I found the story mildly interesting but not compelling. I finished because I really didn’t have anything clicking right now, so this could have been a mood issue for me.
Quite I liked:
The ending doesn’t matter, what matters is how we get there.

This book devoured me in a way a book hasn't in a long time.
I was enraptured with Angrboda and her story. It is a love story and it isn't but the biggest love story in this book is the love Angrboda has for her children. I could not let this story go once the pages came to an end. Genevieve Gornichec wrote with such intensity, passion, love, and beauty in a sometimes not so beautiful world that my heart felt gripped by the story.
Truly an exquisite book and one I know will stay with me.

As a mother, this book pulled at so many of my heart strings. I grieved with Angrboda, I was angry with her, I was heartbroken with her and ultimately I was ready to make the same sacrifices as her. Mythological retellings have always been my favorite but this book will 100% be a reread for me!

Started for Loki and stayed for Skadi. Honestly, this was such a good book. The only thing was that so much time skipping happened throughout the sentences. After reading some sentences, you would get a six month to three years time skip that I wish they were separated by paragraphs. Otherwise, such an interesting mythology read.

I loved this book ... this witch. We should all have the love and devotion of a great mother witch.

All the stars. A richly-imagined and fully-immersive retelling of Norse mythology. Protagonist Angrboda is such a compelling mix of tender and fierce. I will anxiously await anything else that Genevieve Gornichec writes. Thanks to a couple of my librarian friends who put this on my radar.
