DID NOT FINISH

DNFing @ 58 percent

Marking this as read just for having to go through this book. This book started off so strong for me and I really wanted to like it, I just couldn’t. I’ve read my fair share of horror and this is not it. I cannot believe how many 5 star reviews this has. The fact that this specific subject matter is even written in the book is gross and unnecessary. And it’s not even written well. I definitely do not recommend. If you want to read this, read at your own discretion. Search TW.

Extreme horror.

Great imagery both "normal" and horrific. One of my favorite descriptions of a tree ever "It's exposed roots were a wooden squid reaching in every direction."

The ending was both awful and expected since I didn't see anywhere else this book could go. I saw somewhere there's a sequel coming. Can't wait. I've added a few other Triana books to my TBR pile.

Jesus Christ. This book is up there with Amygdalatropolis by B.R. Yeager as some of the most fucked up books I’ve read, funny enough because both have some similar topics covered within. Where this differs however is it’s much more steeped in genre, especially Splatterpunk, but I was glad to see my beloved Cosmic Horror make an appearance.

The writing could use some work, dialogue felt a bit unnatural too often, simile didn’t always work for me, and the side characters ranged from okay to hilariously ridiculous caricature. I didn’t hate my time with it, and winced pretty often, but I assume Triana’s writing skills will improve.

This book blew my mind. I thought we were going one direction, then BAM! We went somewhere else entirely. I did feel ill when this happened... I wasn't sure if I could continue. BUT I HAD TO. Not at all what I was expecting, and because of that I think I love it all the more.

This book was very disturbing- it definitely lives up to the hype and I would highly recommend.

This book went in all types of places that I never even fathomed-so for that reason I think readers should go into this as blind as possible. A brief summary; two sisters venture on a journey together to see the mysterious "River Man"-why? One of the sisters is in love with a serial killer and through mail correspondence he has given her an "assignment".

There were some creepy elements and I was not bored once. There was some brutality, haunting imagery and the most surprising to me was the unfolding of a different kind of horror-the crumbling of the familial unit.

The only thing that didn't make this a perfect read for me was the ending. It was good, but not all that fulfilling after all that I felt I had been through.
