I loved Dune, but this sequel didn’t do it for me. The first 4/5 of the book was mostly made up of political intrigue and conversations without much plot. Then the last part just seemed rushed and fated and kind of obvious. There were only a couple moments that surprised or interested me. The women, who were well developed characters in the first book, seemed to get  shafted here, reduced to heir-producing machines. There was so little attention to continuing the world-building, which was so fun in the first book. Almost didn’t finish.

Frank Herbert is easily one of the best authors I've ever read. I don't see why any of these books aren't considered classics. This book takes you on a wild ride and represents the end of an era in the world of Arrakis. I can't wait to read the 3rd book as this one brought about just as many questions as it answered -- quite characteristic of Frank Herbert's writing.
