This was a beautifully written and chilling middle grade mystery story. I picked this up as part of Amazon Prime First Reads and was intrigued by the plot, but the story was even better than anticipated. Now I can’t wait to read the next in the series. From the first chapter, this book gave me chills and the more the mystery unraveled the more creepy and devastating the story became. I love Mika’s strength and how she proves everyone wrong. This is a great first book in a series and I look forward to reading more.

I seriously enjoyed this MG mystery set in Stockholm, and finished it in a day. It’s the perfect length at 197 pages and therefore doesn’t suffer from a mushy middle like so many mysteries do. While our protagonist is 12, the content of this book is hardly middle grade; there is murder, death, hardship, starvation and lots more. That being said, I’d say this book is a great introduction to Nordic Noir for someone who is unsure if they can handle an adult version.

One of the best middle grade mysteries I’ve ever read. I’m desperate for the next book in the series!
