She had a lot of good points, but overall I didn't connect with much of the book.

I really did not like this. Don’t even know why I finished. I kept waiting for information that seemed interesting/not obvious/haven’t heard before. I listen to a lot of spiritual podcasts and also read a lot of spiritual books and didn’t hear anything new when listening to this audiobook. After hearing people rave about Brown’s work, I was 100% let down. I also did not get the need for the wilderness metaphor. Idk none of it landed for me.

This book took me a while to read....note: do not read when you are tired because you will have to go back and reread it again!

This book is heavy in a good way. I read it with a highlighter in hand. It definitely gave me a lot to think about and is definitely not a “beach read” but it was also a book I was happy to come back to each time I picked it up.

She compares the path to true belonging to The Wilderness and gives you the tools to help you navigate through it and come out with a wild heart. My favorite parts were the stories she tells about her own life or stories others have tons her to drive her point home. I gave it four stars because, while I know she is a researcher sometimes the research speak became a little much for me, but worth wading through!

Braving the Wilderness felt like a breath of fresh air! Brene’s words resonated with me & reminded me that simply existing is an extraordinary thing. They helped me realize that I’d like to put far more energy into experiencing joy, living in the moment, and being compassionate towards myself and others… and a whole lot less towards feeling inadequate. This book also reiterated one of my most beloved affirmations — something that I first learned about from Glennon Doyle’s book ‘Untamed’ — We can be both brave and afraid!

My favorite quote from Braving the Wilderness: “Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, joy, trust, intimacy, and courage — everything that brings meaning to our life. An armored front sounds good when we’re hurting but causes us much more pain in the end. When we let people take our vulnerability or fill us with their hate, we turn over our entire life to them.”

I listened to this one on my way to and from my trip to Johnstown and it’s a very fast read. Brown comes highly recommended by my coworkers and while I did enjoy this, it wasn’t at all what I was expecting reading the synopsis. Upon further asking my coworkers, apparently this isn’t one of their favorites. I’d be open to trying another title!

Wow, I really enjoyed this book. I wish it was a bit longer to get into some details more but this book definitely made me think a lot.

Loved it. Recommend it. Will read it again.
