Reading Rush: A book that starts with "the"
Wow. I did not know much about W.E.B. Du Bois except the fact he was an activist. I did a little research before reading this. By little I mean a 10 minute YouTube video and small article. This man was born right after the slaves were "freed", Jim Crow, The Great Depression, WWI, WWII and the start the the Civil Rights movement in the 60's. Saying this holy crap. He had so much wisdom, he was very intelligent and a lot of what was said in this book is still relevant today. He talks about prisons, education, life in Georgia, and so much more. I really recommend everybody read this. I also enjoyed the small piece of music sheet at the beginning of each chapter.

This is a must-read, especially if you live in America.
This was a huge struggle to read. Maybe I've lost the knack of reading essays as I haven't read one for ages but it is also 100x compounded by the language in this book. It was also a hard topic to read & heartbreaking because we still have so far to go.

Amazing collection of stories, poems, essays, etc. on the experience of being Black in the United States. Read this for an English class titled Black Manhattan and want to revisit time and time again

What is there even to say about this??
The Souls of Black Folk is an incredibly well written account of what it is to be a black man in the United States, tragically relevant over a century after it was first written. Somehow a sociological analysis of black culture, a political rebuttal to the work of Booker T. Washington, a personal memoir, and a fictional allegory all wrapped up into one exceptional work.
I think that this should be required reading for all Americans. White and black people can get so much from this. I highly recommend it.
