I wish it wasn't described as "a novel in fifteen stories". I thought it was a novel. It's not. It's short stories, pure and simple. If they are connected beyond having the same author and being set in Cuba, I didn't find the connection.

Okay, I can confidently say that I am not smart enough for this book. I truly do not understand how all the short stories connected, and often, I didn't even understand who the narrator was in a story. I could, however, appreciate the beauty of the author's writing. There were passages that made me catch my breath, for even if I didn't understand who was talking or what their deal was, I was still taken with a phrasing or understood the weight of a sentence. This all made for a wholly strange reading experience.

I'm not sure quite what to make of this book. It was odd but in a good way. I definitely had a hard time putting it down.

This was really short. About 3 hours (audiobook) on scribd. I noticed some technical glitches but it was overall very unmemorable for me. Bleh.

agree with others that i did not understand a single one of these 15 chapters. the description of the book on the inside cover feels misleading re: connected stories, multigenerational portrait of Cuba, queerness, political, feminist, immigrant. I did not learn anything about identity or Cuba which was disappointing.
