This is just not the book for me. Trying to follow the characters, unravel the politics, and parse through all the relationships was just too much and I have absolutely no desire to continue.

Almost too fast paced, fun space opera. Some good world building and politicking. My biggest gripe is that there is little time for things to settle between action sequences. I would just say the characters need to breathe a little. On to book 2.

This book is just really fun sci-fi.

Unconquerable Sun was a relatively good space opera full of intergalactic politics. Unconquerable Sun is described as a sapphic gender swapped alexander the great where we follow princess Sun, daughter of Queen-Marshal Eirene and heir to the throne of the Republic of Chaonia, as she comes off the high from her first victory in battle. Believing that she has cemented her strength and proven she's the right choice to be the heir to the throne, others don't feel the same way, and will do anything to have her gone.

Unconquerable Sun is getting 3 stars purely due to the unbearably slow start but it does have some richly detailed worldbuilding, some really great characters with some fascinating dynamics and of course, some brilliant political intrique (my fav). It is a very military-heavy novel - lots of epic battles, combat, and a large scale intergalatic war. When this action picked up, the novels slow pace and intense world building proved easy to read. I'd say if you're a big fan of military sci-fi & space opera then I would definitely give this a go!

I think I would have enjoyed this more reading it in print. But the characters were fun and lots of action.

Even though I love epics and sci-fi, this took me 4 years to finish and to be honest, I almost dropped it. The scale is too grand, I think, and even though the author implements various points of view for the storytelling, it turned out to be more complicated than it could have. Not my cup of tea and I am unsure if I will read the remaining books in the series. I wasn’t that invested in the story by the end, so I doubt I’ll follow up.

Very impressive in how it makes a book which is set up as "lesbian Alexander the Great in space" boring as hell. Probably didn't help that there is in fact very little of Alexander's history woven into it, his family and friend group are present and like 2 historical scene but that is it. There was one fight scene that I swear on the audiobook went on for like two hours. I just kept waiting for things to happen that actually moved the plot forward and oh boy.

I found this through Wizards vs Lesbians and note to self, anytime Isaac doesn't like a book I usually don't either, follow his reccs
adventurous emotional funny tense fast-paced

It was interesting, but there was just so much action it was at times very hard to follow who was who and exactly what was happening. A few of the relationships didn’t make sense, because there was no time to develop, they were all just running around the whole time.

Enjoyed it. Sun may seem a bit too competent when you think about it but it didn't stick out as annoying to me. Very much appreciated the queernormative society.
