aaaaaaAAAAAAHHHHHH this was SO good! So many juicy characters. I loved how the house was basically a character unto itself. So many hilarious and absurd details were built into that house like the bee hive and the bedroom fire pit that had to be tended every three hours or you'd get bombed by smoke. Beagin's writing style was so great- I really appreciated the way she zoomed in on minute details about a person or a place and extrapolated from there through Greta. I am now dying to become a sex therapy transcriptionist and move to Hudson and run around amongst all these crazy, wacky people causing drama. This book did have so many laughs and insane plot lines and devices, but was really centered around deep aching and trauma, and it all just sung together. I found so much of myself in these people living a life largely unlike my own, and that is such a good feeling in a book. What a great read!

I’m trying to figure out why this has such a low rating and quite simply I cannot find a reason to rate this under 5 stars. Perfect? I’m unsure, but it was deeply deranged, laugh out loud funny, and a wild adventure. I loved it

I had heard about this book from film twitter because Jodie Comer is supposed to be in the onscreen adaptation and I love her down… I had no idea what I was really getting into minus the watered down premise of the plot. Whenever there is a wlw age gap story you expect the love interest to be the older woman, but it was flipped to my surprise!!!! Added an extra element that I was not expecting. Greta (main character) is very problematic and borderline criminal especially that one thing she said … Greta’s relationship with Big Swiss is trivial. Her basically not gaf about HIPAA laws to pursue this lady sent me bad bc that is literally just so terrible and unethical 😭 like pls… the author was so intentional in describing both of their personalities and almost portrayed them both as a study of just human behavior imo. Their slow burn was intriguing especially when it all finally exploded. The way these characters behave, you’d think their ages were flipped. But I’ve learned in life that with age doesn’t promise maturity or anything else age is supposed to come with. Will probably read again at some point. The main critic is how slow and overly worded parts of the book was. There were several moments I thought can we wrap it up…. 😭 that’s just my personal preference though, some stories may require over explaining- but I thought this author exceeded the amount of times that should’ve happened. Very interesting and original plot, looking forward to watching the onscreen adapt with Jodie <3

Why is this book such a big deal? The characters were too unlikeable to have any sympathy toward them. Only characters I liked were the dogs and the sex therapist.

I loved this book! Every character is flawed and complex. My cup of tea.

A lustful, balls-to-the-wall, cheeky romp that explores the synergy between trauma and toxic relationships. It’s not a book for everyone; the main character is pathetic, inappropriate, but also hilarious. Some of the passages can be problematic (maybe for the sake of satire but it’s hard to say), while the plot is almost unbelievably absurd. Like the relationship at the center of this novel, I too have a love-hate regard for this novel and so I settled on 4/5 stars because I went along for this off-rails ride anyway.

I was sucked in and pulled by my own curiosity with every interaction and every session Greta was given to transcribe. The moral ambiguity was so alluring I couldn’t help but finish the book in less than a week. Every character is pretty severely mentally ill and it left me with a bit of an icky feeling, and yet it was so intriguing the whole way through. Every character felt full and multi-dimensional. I loved it!
