Ahhh, so much fun!! I was thrilled to find a story that didn't involve a formal detective. I love Poirot but it was fun to read about a couple of amateur sleuths who were motivated and followed their hunches until they ended up in serious trouble. Would they be rescued? Would they figure a way out of their life and death situation? Or is this the end? I know the story was a bit fantastical but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the characters and mystery in the first half of the book.

The ending however felt a bit forced. Specifically (without going into spoilers) the bright young protagonist named Frankie does something frighteningly stupid and out of character for someone who has read a lot of mysteries. After that happened, the plot seemed rushed as if Agatha Christie had tired of the whole thing and wanted it over with.

One thing I don't understand is why women in old books often have names that sound manly today (Frankie from this book to name one). While the men often have what is considered female names today. (I'm thinking of Ashley from Gone with the Wind as a specific example.) What is it that causes names to be so volatile that just one hundred years makes such a huge difference?

Me ha gustado mucho el estilo de Christie, y la historia, aunque enrevesada, es entretenida y sorprendente.

this is a beginner-friendly Christie that feels like a Tommy and Tuppence, if you're looking for a romcom-y mystery.

It was just okay. Nothing unexpected happened and a twist at the end as agatha's book always have. Its bit boring and ordinary tale of murder mystery.
