This is one of my favorites! The great thing about books is that they are allowed to make us uncomfortable, and things I wholly disagree with, because it is not real, no one gets hurt. They allow for you to be faced with such issues, to form an opinion on it and then move along, because it is fiction. Full of adventure, this one kept me up at night reading, crying, laughing and completely enthralled. Looking forward to reading the next!

This book was slow paced in the best way. It was cozy. It felt like being on an adventure with the main character.

I loved the story, the characters, and the setting. I did feel conflicted at several points in the book which I actually liked because it made it more realistic.

The banter between characters was great but I felt like the main character’s inner dialogue was totally lacking.

There were so many times throughout the book where I wanted to know what the MC was thinking or feeling about a situation but there were zero thoughts included. I felt like that was odd and it’s part of the reason this wasn’t 5 stars for me.

I also felt like the later half of the book took a totally different turn and the whole vibe of the book was suddenly different.

Overall I really liked it and found it easy to get sucked into the story. I had been wanting to read this one for a long time but was intimidated by the book and series length.  I’m glad I finally did though!

Rec: Lynn S. Mar 25, 2025 Diana Gabaldon is a renowned author best known for her Outlander series, which masterfully blends historical fiction, romance, and time travel. The series chronicles the adventures of Claire Randall, a 20th-century British nurse who is transported back to 18th-century Scotland, where she encounters the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser. This saga spans multiple novels, each delving into rich historical contexts and intricate character developments.

I really enjoyed this book, but it does get wordy and too historical at some points for me. Every now and then I'd skim a paragraph.

The one thing I took issue with was the spanking. That really got to me. And it frustrated me how easily James was forgiven for it. Perhaps it could have been written a bit better, I don't know, but I really didn't enjoy that part of the book.

Otherwise I recommend it.
